Luciana Rosado
Luciana Rosado (b.1981) is a Portuguese contemporary visual artist, living and working in Cambridge, UK. She holds a Degree in Painting Fine-Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and has been regularly exhibiting both in the UK and in Portugal. She is the current artist-researcher collaborator at Newnham College, University of Cambridge, producing a new body of work framed by the theme of Forced Migration. In 2019, she was selected to show at The Cambridge Show at Kettle’s Yard and, in 2014, Rosado had her first solo show at Murray Edwards College, in Cambridge.
How do we navigate the constant permanence of change in our lives?
Rosado’s work focuses on visually exploring the concepts of identity, memory, our own palimpsest of hidden thoughts and feelings and individual vulnerability in the face of life events. Music, the written word and the water element inform the creative process, both conceptually and visually. The painting process assumes major importance in visually and mainly explores the relationship between writing and layers of colour, where diluted acrylic paint populates the painting surface and intertwines itself with statement like pieces of writing, selected from diverse sources like literature, podcasts episodes and music lyrics. Her pieces convey a visual metaphor of our restless inner world and possess atmospheric and contemplative features.
